Fee comparison

Charon has always taken a coin for the crossing. CHARON takes 1%.

The toll is CHARON's only fee. It's a constant in the escrow contract, and before you sign, the app shows the toll and the exact amount you'll receive on HyperEVM.

The ways off Elysium

Route Cost On 1,000 HYPE, you receive Time to HyperEVM
CHARON 1% toll 990 HYPE Target ~30 seconds; live average on the pool status page
P2P OTC desk ~3% ~970 HYPE Per trade, as negotiated
Community fast exit ~10% ~900 HYPE Depends on the counterparty
Standard withdrawal No toll 1,000 HYPE The challenge period (community-reported ~6 days), then a claim transaction on HyperEVM

The OTC and community rates, and the challenge period length, are community-reported market context. They aren't quotes, individual rates vary, and CHARON neither operates nor partners with any of those routes. The fees page has the same table with your own amount.

What 1% saves

You cross CHARON toll Saved vs. OTC (~3%) Saved vs. community (~10%)
100 HYPE 1 HYPE ~2 HYPE ~9 HYPE
1,000 HYPE 10 HYPE ~20 HYPE ~90 HYPE
10,000 HYPE 100 HYPE ~200 HYPE ~900 HYPE
100,000 HYPE 1,000 HYPE ~2,000 HYPE ~9,000 HYPE

How the toll is computed

toll   = amount × 100 ÷ 10,000   (rounded down)
payout = amount − toll

Rounding goes the traveler's way. The escrow's quote(amount) returns both numbers, and the app shows the contract's answer.

When to take the slow road

The standard bridge charges no toll, only gas. If you can afford to wait out the challenge period, take it. CHARON is for when the wait costs you more than 1%.

Gas

  • You pay Elysium gas for your deposit.
  • The ferryman pays HyperEVM gas for your payout and for the pool's confirmation back to Elysium.
  • Reclaims cost Elysium gas and no toll.

Where the toll goes

Every toll stays in the exit pool and accrues to OBOL holders, the stakers who supply the ferry's liquidity. There is no protocol cut. See Tokenomics.
